The following is a general overview of the domestic adoption process:

  • Receive Profile & Advertising Guide and consultation
  • Receive Adoption Preparation Guide
  • Home study and education consultation
  • Complete Adoption Preparation Education
  • Profile listed for Expectant Mother's to review
  • Potential Match with Expectant Mother
  • Meeting with Expectant Mother facilitated by MLJ Adoptions team member
  • Legal and financial risk consultation
  • Match with Expectant Mother
  • Expectant Mother and Prospective Adoptive Parent(s) determine level of comfort regarding contact, attendance at medical appointments, etc.
  • Placement
  • Attorney completes legal portion of adoption

babyTotal Domestic Adoption expenses can range from $16,000 up.

REMEMBER you may be eligible for the Federal Adoption tax credit of more than $12,000 for any adoption fees (even fees associated with matching efforts when there was not a completed adoption).

An Initial Evaluation may be offered at no cost to the potential adoptive parent(s). Evaluations provided to the adoptive parent(s) are to be considered an opinion regarding how the adoptive parents might be viewed by a domestic expectant mother. Evaluations are general, only an opinion, and not to be considered legal advice.

Prior to the adoptive parent(s) initiating the adoption process, any additional meetings, consultations or services will be charged at $200 per hour with Michele L. Jackson or $75 per hour with any other team members.

If you have a private placement adoption, please contact MLJ Adoptions to discuss the process and expenses. A private placement adoption’s expenses are typically much less expensive.
