pps-1MLJ Adoptions has successfully finalized its first adoption from Bangladesh! Working as our family’s primary provider, we successfully completed their adoption process and obtained the visa allowing the children to immigrate to the United States from Bangladesh. This adoptive family is now united and ecstatic to begin family life in the United States!

Because of the Universal Accreditation Act (UAA) which became effective July 14, 2014 all prospective adoptive parents adopting internationally must work with a primary provider.

What does this actually mean? It means that regardless of whether your adoption or guardianship is completed in another country, or if you are seeking to adopt, or if you require assistance to bring your adopted child to the U.S., every adoptive family must utilize the services of a Hague accredited or approved adoption agency to serve as their primary provider. Previously, families were able to complete their adoptions on their own, or “independently”, but now, due to UAA, no family is exempt from using a primary provider on their adoption journey.

How is it monitored? No matter the adoption process, families seeking to adopt internationally and bring their child to the United States must file immigration paperwork. If all the immigration paperwork is filed correctly, and sufficient information provided to United States Customs and Immigration Services, the child will immigrate to the United States on an orphan visa, so that they receive United States Citizenship. Immigration approvals are not given to families who do not use a primary provider to complete their adoption. Without an immigration approval, an orphan visa cannot be granted.

MLJ Adoptions is currently working as the primary provider for adoptive families who are adopting from countries across the globe, including Pakistan, Liberia, Malaysia, Tanzania and Sudan. Some families are working to complete a relative adoption while others are adopting or seeking to adopt an orphaned child in need. The services associated with each case, and the timeline to finalizing the adoption in the United States largely depend on the country a family is adopting from and where they are in the process.

Regardless of the country an adoptive family is seeking to adopt from, they all have one commonality: all are seeking to open their hearts and homes to a child in need and giving that child a forever family.  MLJ Adoptions is thrilled to work with these families to help them realize their dream of adoption. Every child deserves a family and as a primary provider MLJ can expand its reach to ensure more children globally grow up in a stable and loving home with the family they deserve. We are privileged to have been able to work with our family who just welcomed two children into their home from Bangladesh!

We evaluate each case individually to determine if we are able to assist you. If you have questions about if MLJ Adoptions can serve as your primary provider, contact us.
