Lydia Tarr works as the Program Director for MLJ Adoptions’ programs in Bulgaria and Ukraine. She works with families through filing immigration forms, completing their dossier and helping the family once they have been matched with their child. Her favorite part of her job is conveying referral information to anxiously waiting families and sharing in their excitement.
She loves having the opportunity to watch adoptive children grow and thrive. The MLJ Adoptions’ Community Events allow Lydia and the rest of our staff to see children once they have arrived home into their forever families. This is a special experience for Lydia because she is able to see the positive impact adoption has had not just on the child, but on the entire family.
Her passion for adoption began as a personal passion, as Lydia and her husband, Jeff, pursued adoption from Ukraine. She is beyond thankful for the amazing ways God moved and worked out the details. The experience led her not only to adopt twice more, but to pursue adoption as a profession. While some may be overwhelmed by the great need in international adoption and the sheer number of children without families, Lydia chooses to focus on making a difference for the children she can help.
She and her husband, Jeff, keep themselves busy raising their five teenagers, spending time with their two adult children and spoiling their grandson.
Lydia started an adoption ministry at her then-church in 2001 before bringing her first daughter home from Ukraine. Her introduction to international adoption came by way of working at a hosting organization. She has started several adoption ministries and provided countless resources for families exploring adoption and to families who have already brought children home. Lydia was recognized as a 2013 Angel in Adoption by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute’s (CCAI) Angels in Adoption Program
