MLJ Adoptions is very excited to announce that we are able to accept families into our Haiti international adoption program! Each dossier that we submit means another child is on their way to a loving, permanent home!
Last year was a big year for our families adopting from Haiti. Our first two children joined their forever families in the fall, with another family bringing home their daughters in December. Three families also received referrals. We are encouraged by the progress we’ve seen in Haiti and we have witnessed the commitment to international adoption by IBESR, the central authority in Haiti. Our staff is also deeply committed to working in Haiti and we look forward to supporting additional families in our Haiti international adoption program in 2017.
The children who came home from Haiti in 2016 were a four year old boy, a four year old girl and four year old girl twins. Our referred children were a fifteen year old boy, a two year old boy and a 16 month old girl. The wait from dossier submission to referral ranged from 11 months to 31 months.
Married couples who are interested in adopting from Haiti must be married at least five years, and one spouse must be at least thirty years-old. Neither spouse can be over the age of fifty at the time of dossier submission. Single women interested in adopting from Haiti must be between the ages of thirty-five and fifty.
Due to the extreme poverty prevalent in Haiti, families may not be able to care for their children; 15% of children in Haiti are estimated to be living outside of family care. We are excited that we have additional spots available in our Haiti international adoption program to meet this need and we are eager to come alongside families seeking to provide a permanent, loving home for these worthy children.
