Adopting from Burkina FasoMLJ is excited to share that two additional MLJ prospective adoptive families hoping to adopt from Africa received their referrals this month from Burkina Faso! This adds up to seven matches since this program opened! These recently matched families waited seven months and twelve months after dossier submission and registration to Burkina Faso’s Central Authority to be matched! This is such exciting news for these families as well as for MLJ! Burkina Faso offers a program in Africa that is proving to provide better than expected timelines from dossier to match of a child in need. Families adopting from Burkina Faso are able to meet the critical need of adoption from Africa.

To date MLJ has received matches of six children with waiting families, these families waited an average of eight (8) months to be matched with a child. Current timelines of these six matches are shown below:

  • 2016 7 months wait; Male child age 3 years old
  • 2016 12 months wait; Male child age 3 years old
  • 2017 5 months wait, Male Child age 7 years old
  • 2017 1 month wait, Male Child age 14 years old
  • 2017 7 months wait, Male Child age 2 years old
  • 2017 12 months wait, Female Child age 2 years old

Burkina Faso is signatory to The Hague Adoption Convention and as a result, provides ethical transparent adoptions, with matches made of families to children approved through their central authority Ministère de l’Action Sociale et de la Solidarité Nationale La Direction des Placements et des Adoptions. Current timelines from match to bringing your child home to the U.S. are 10 to 14 months for legal processing and visa approvals.

Families interested in adopting from Burkina Faso should have no more than one child currently in the home to be eligible to adopt, however families with two or more children already in the home may adopt a child with medical needs or an older child ages six (6) and older. Additional requirements include couples must be married five years or more at the time of dossier submission, one spouse must be at least 30 years old, and neither spouse is over 55.
