Employers Support Family-Building by Adoption

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption recently released their list of the 100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces for 2009 as part of their effort to encourage more employers to offer benefits for those that would like to adopt. To be considered for this list employers must complete an adoption benefits survey. Those included are ranked based on the maximum amount of financial reimbursement per adoption provided, including any additional support for special needs adoption, as well as the maximum amount of paid leave allowed for adoption. It is not surprising that Wendy’s tops the list.

We are thrilled that Fishers based Bowen Engineering Corporation made the top ten in America. Other Indiana-based companies included are 33rd overall and #1 Pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly and Company, and 44th overall and #1 Real Estate Company Duke Realty Corporation. In the Government listings the City of Carmel ranked 3rd. To find out if your employer is included read the complete listing. If your employer is not listed or you are an employer that would like to be listed, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption also provides resources to encourage employers to become an Adoption-Friendly Workplace. It never hurts to contact your Human Resources department and ask if adoption benefits are provided or can be included as part of maternity/paternity benefits.
