adoption form Burkina FasoMLJ Adoptions is thrilled to announce that our first family completed their adoption from Burkina Faso, and arrived home with their son! This is an incredible milestone for the family, as well as an exciting milestone for our organization. We are celebrating this family’s adoption journey and what it means for the future of adoptions from Burkina Faso!

U.S. families have been adopting children from Africa for decades, but in recent years it has become increasingly difficult. The need for international adoption remains, but the processes and procedures have caused setbacks for families, agencies and most important, children. When MLJ Adoptions opened our Burkina Faso program in November 2014, we were eager to serve orphaned children in Africa and also encouraged to work with a Hague Convention country.

The family waited eight months from dossier submission to receiving the referral of their three year-old son. They traveled to bring him home just over ten months later. From dossier submission to the family traveling to meet their son, they waited eighteen months!

MLJ Adoptions has another family who has been matched with their child, and the adoption process in Burkina Faso is progressing. We have several other families waiting to be matched with children. We continue to be impressed by the work of our in-country staff and the efficiency of the central authority in Burkina Faso.

We are thankful for the continued opportunity to serve adoptive families and vulnerable children!
