MLJ Adoptions Welcomes New Director of Social Services

MLJ Adoptions is thrilled to announce the arrival of our new Director of Social Services, Karlene Edgemon!karlene staff

Karlene’s large and vibrant family instilled in her an enthusiasm for helping all families become successful and healthy. She attended the University of Tennessee where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, also studying Sociology and Human Services. She then attended graduate school at Indiana State University where she completed her Master of Science degree in Agency Counseling.

Throughout her career, Karlene has served countless families using her background and experience. She has served as the Executive Director of 4-C (Community Coordinated Child Care) for the Wabash Valley, Inc., was an initial founder of the Indiana Associate of Child Care Resource and referral agencies, worked as a Group Homes Supervisor/Social Work for The Villages of Indiana and went on to serve as the Regional Senior Director for The Villages of Indiana for over 19 years.

Her wealth of knowledge and wide range of experience in areas such as Family Preservation, Domestic Adoption, Special Needs Adoption, Post Adoption Services, Parent Education, family assessment, therapy, case management, Adoption Child Summaries, and adoption home study preparation make her an excellent asset to MLJ Adoptions.

In her role as MLJ Adoptions’ Director of Social Services, Karlene will be responsible for our staff maintaining appropriate licensure and education, in addition to supervising all aspects of adoption preparation education, home study services, support services, and post-adoption services. We are excited for her to bring her expertise to our team in order to enhance the services we provide to our families throughout their adoption journeys.

Karlene and her husband have two married children, a son-in-law and daughter-in law, two spoiled rescue Chihuahuas, and a cat who adopted them.  In her spare time, Karlene enjoys international travel, her favorite vacation destination is Ireland, and reading, especially mystery novels, in additional to scrapbooking, party planning, theatre, Colts football, and spending time with her extended family and friends.

Caitlin Snyder works as the Director of Marketing and Outreach for MLJ Adoptions. Working in international adoption has given Caitlin the unique opportunity to pursue both a passion to advocate on behalf of vulnerable people and a profession at the same time.
