Adoption is a process that in nature is both social and legal. Adoption enables children in need to be cared for in a loving home, by legally transferring all parental rights and responsibilities to the adopting parent(s). Because adoptions are so complex, legal advice is often necessary to adequately pursue your adoption efforts, especially with inter-country adoption which involves four areas of law – state, federal, international, and country specific laws.
MLJ Adoptions, Inc. has an advantage over other agencies with our two Adoption Attorneys Michele L. Jackson, JD and Nicole Skellenger, JD, where most agencies do not have any attorneys on staff. This enables us to offer legal advise and advocate your case before a court of competent jurisdiction as needed. The attorneys at MLJ Adoptions, Inc. are experienced in the interpretation and application of all types of adoption law. In addition, they are bound by the rules of ethics requiring attorneys to utilize every means possible to attempt to obtain positive results for their clients and protect confidentiality through attorney-client privilege.
MLJ Adoptions, Inc. also makes it a priority for all team members to abide by these ethical standards; however other adoption agencies that do not have attorneys on staff are not required to comply with these guidelines. As a licensed child placing agency, we are able to also provide all the same services as an agency without a staff attorney, including home study, Adoption Preparation Education, counseling, Expectant Care, etc; however, we are also able to advocate for our clients in a way that other agencies cannot.
